Importantly, the references are now to paragraphs instead of page numbers, so it will work with all language editions, not just the English ones.

I have not looked into all the differences, but some form has now been given to the EQE for 2012 and beyond.

For candidates with at least 2 years patent experience on the date the pre-exam is to be held (not yet known, but presumably in March 2012) are required to take the pre-exam in 2012. As I pointed out, many of the references have been superseded, so probably the EPO feels that making old references available is confusing for users.


They suggest accessing the references via the on-line EPC and OJEPO's, but that is rather time-consuming if you are looking for a number of references.

Unfortunately, the latest version of the EPC2000 guidelines does not contain all relevant infromation about the old law. Although the law as of 31 Dec 2009 will be tested in EQE2010, this does include any older provisions which continue to apply for applications which could be pending on that date. Unfortunately, according to the EPO, this book will not be updated before EQE 2010. In my earlier post, there was a slight mistake - although you may want to consult the old book online, you will need to print it out (or order it) and update it your self to take to the exam.

All grounds have to be filed within the same period (REE Art.24)

It may take 1.5 years before you get a decision (so you will have to do the exam next year anyway)
