Your chance to help with EQE 2021

Every year, the epi asks for volunteers for the EQE committees - as expected they need more help for EQE 2021. New members are mainly needed to mark papers - after approx. 2 years, you may be asked to help draft papers. The Official notice and application form is here under Examination Committees. Some highlights:

  • EB expects more candidates than usual in 2021, and would therefore appreciate receiving a large number of applications to guarantee a fair marking of papers
  • You can indicate your paper preference
  • For 2021-2022 term, applications need to be received by June 9, 2020
  • Membership of epi and successful completion of EQE is required
  • For marking, a minimum commitment of 120 hours per year, including a minimum of four days of meetings
  • Also expected to help with testing and checking of new papers, bench marking or acting as an EQE official, which might require further or different time commitments. These tasks are distributed fairly among members.
  • Volunteer, so no remuneration. But travel expenses are reimbursed by epi.
  • In particular for this year: those who can can mark papers in German or French
  • Appointment is for at least 2 years

Report from the EQE Tutors Meeting - Oct 2018

In October, the EPO & epi arrange an annual meeting of EQE Tutors and members of the EQE Committees (EC's). Information & views are exchanged to help Tutors prepare Candidates for future exams, and to influence how future exams are made and marked. It is a good opportunity to learn about how each paper is made and tested, and to meet the EC's. In particular, anything highly relevant for the next exam (in this case EQE 2019) is communicated.
A full report usually appears in the December version of epi information (I don't make this anymore), but here are my most important conclusions:

1. ABCD: extra 30 minutes

  • There were concerns that some papers (this year B and C) seemed to be longer than average, eating up the extra 30 minutes given to make the paper. The EC's assured us that the papers are made and tested based on the time limits defined in the Exam Regulations (REE). The extra 30 minutes remains extra time for candidates to make the paper, and compensates for slower reading and writing by those who do not do the paper in their native language.
  • My advice is to build & practice a methodology for doing the papers without the extra 30 minutes. You can then decide at the exam how to use this.

2. D: lower passing rate in 2018

For the successful candidates who complain about the EQE ...

If you think that the EQE is unfair, too hard or even too easy, you have the chance to influence it.

The EPO is looking for new members of the Examination Committees - see here

There are currently three ECs, each comprising epi and EPO members. EC I is responsible
for papers A and B, EC II for paper C and EC III for paper D. The duties of the ECs are set
out in Article 8 REE. Initially, the duties of new EC members will mainly concern the marking
of candidates' answer papers, which will require a minimum commitment of 120 hours per
year, including a minimum of three days of meetings in Munich. EC members may also be
involved in other duties that would require further time commitments.

Sorry, but you must have already passed the EQE

The closing date for applications is 9 October 2009
